Named Likoma by the first settlers (after marveling at the beauty of the island), this biggest island on Lake Malawi boasts of un-spoilt nature and some of the best beaches in Malawi. One of the most famous landmarks and assets of the island is the old St Peter’s Anglican Cathedral. Built by the early Universities Mission to Central Africa (UMCA) missionaries in 1905, the Cathedral is simply a marvel. Coupled with its friendly and ever-smiling local population, the Island is an ultimate tourist destination. Situated on the south –eastern side of the island is the beautiful, cosy, Khaiko Lodge – opening onto one of the most breathtaking sandy and crystal clear beaches on the island.
Built on a little hilltop, with a natural rocky landscape, the Lodge has 5 executive and spacious rooms – each with an adjoining lounge. The living quarters are complimented by a Restaurant serving local and international dishes; with a well –stocked pub serving assorted drinks – all served by very friendly staff who are always ready to go an extra mile to satisfy visitors.
The surrounding landscaping is unique to Khaiko Lodge only. Khaiko commands an excellent view of the lake, with the Mozambique hills just on the other side of the lake to the east. Visitors enjoy superb reflections of rays across the lake as the sun or moon rises above the Mozambican hills nearby.
